Can’t Work Our Way into Heaven

VERSE 1: We can sing in the choir every Sunday; be the greeter who smiles at the door.
Sign up to work in the kitchen putting food into bags for the poor,
We could tithe down to the penny; do our best to win every race,
But we’re only running in circles; if we don’t have faith,
CHORUS: Oo…ooo…ooo … can’t work our way into Heaven; that’s not the reason we serve.
It’s not the things that we do; it’s the work of the cross and His grace,
not something we earn
If we believe in Him, Jesus will carry us in.
VERSE 2: We could fast and even cast out demons, pray in tongues and preach to our friends,
Read the Word and memorize scripture; do everything the church recommends
We could climb every mountain and travel from coast to coast,
Fighting for justice and freedom, and still have no reason to boast,
CHORUS: Oo…ooo…ooo … can’t work our way into Heaven; that’s not the reason we serve.
It’s not the things that we do; it’s the work of the cross and His grace,
not something we earn
If we believe in Him, Jesus will carry us in.
BRIDGE: If we can’t work our way into Heaven, then why we do what we do?
It’s because of the joy in our heart……. and our sincere gratitude.
CHORUS: Oo…ooo…ooo … can’t work our way into Heaven; that’s not the reason we serve.
It’s not the things that we do; it’s the work of the cross and His grace,
not something we earn
If we believe in Him, Jesus will carry us in.
CODA: Can’t work our way; can’t work our way, no, serving’s a blessing!
oooooo…..
