The Devil is a Liar
By Susan Cantey © 2008
The devil is a liar; he’s a fear intensifier,
A dirty double crossing, scheming demon straight from Hell,
He’ll accuse you and he’ll abuse you,
Dredge up doubts from deep within' ya...
cause he knows you all too well,
He'll try to put you down and drown you in the muck and the mire!
But the devil…is a…li…ar
She walked on by...the beer and the wine...
cell phone out, got her daddy on the line,
Sick and tired, wants to come home...
tears in her eyes as she hangs up the phone,
Hard to go straight with a monkey on your back,
In her mind she hears the devil laugh!”
CHORUS
Daddy looks down the road...whispers a prayer
Porch light on, fingers running through grey hair
Pouring rain...ticking clock...where can she be?
How the devil twists his thoughts.
What a lousy father now your daughter’s dead,
The devil likes to play with all the guilt in your head!
CHORUS
Sirens in the night; a knock at the door; there's his girl and
She's alright; alright; alright!
CHORUS
Li…..ar, he’s a li……ar…. (repeat and fade)
