Nothing in the Eyes of the World
David E. Blowers and Nick Cardilino
They were forced to leave their home
The decree came down from Rome
They were nothing in the eyes of the world
They made the trek to Bethlehem
Where they found no room at the inn
They were nothing in the eyes of the world
Angels sang of the incarnation
God’s most perfect revelation
Jesus, the Messiah, King of kings
Yet he was nothing
Nothing in the eyes of the world
She wrapped him up in strips of cloth
And for a crib, she used a trough
They were nothing in the eyes of the world
The angels’ news had been revealed
To lowly shepherds in a field
Who were nothing in the eyes of the world
Chorus
When he grew up, he ate with sinners
And said the first shall be the last
Those in power tried to silence him
But the crowds grew wide and vast
He showed the healing love of God
To all the sick and the outcast
Who were nothing in the eyes of the world
His mother wept at his crucifixion
A brutal death fulfilled his mission
Born to die so we might be redeemed
Angels sang at his incarnation
Then sang again at our salvation
When he rose from the grave for you and me
Who are nothing,
Nothing in the eyes of the world
But who are everything,
Everything in the eyes of the Lord
