I'm a lyricist and write mainly country songs but I do occasionally write in other genres. I've collaborated with some really wonderful and talented songwriters from around the U.S. and Canada. I grew up listening to rock-and-roll and folk music of the late sixties and early seventies: the Beatles, the Mamas & Papas, Simon & Garfunkel, John Denver ... well, too many favorites to list here! I still love that music but also love country, pop, and enjoy some other genres now and then. I have had lots of support over the years as I was learning the craft of songwriting. Pat Luboff was so encouraging to me in my early endeavors as she helped me learn song structure and was very gentle with her critiques! The folks at NSAI as well as the Just Plain Folks Songwriters Community have given me lots of encouragement and support in this journey! Last, but not least, the Songwriters Workshop at SouthBrook (SWS), a group of wonderful and talented songwriters have been a great source of knowledge, friendship and support in my growth as a songwriter! On a personal note, I live in Alexandria, KY with my husband, Mark. We have four children and eight grandchildren. My full-time job is as an eLearning Coordinator at a local community college. I hope you enjoy my songs and would love to get your feedback! Thanks so much for taking the time to listen! Mary Lou |
