» Every Shade of Blue

John and I met at an NSAI Coordinator training session in the early 90's. We wrote several songs together by long distance; this was before email and the Internet.

One day I was talking to him on the phone, telling him about this website I had just run across. At one point I said, "It must have at least twenty-two shades of blue!" There was a long pause, and then John said, "You know, that's a pretty good hook."

We wrote several versions of a lyric trying to make "Twenty-Two Shades of Blue" work as a title and hook. We never did find a way to justify the "twenty-two", though.

Then one day I was in the laundry room folding towels, and it just hit me: "Every shade of blue are the colors I would use / to paint a picture of me missing you / Every passing day adds a deeper shade / Color me missing you / In every shade of blue." I called John, and this final version was born.

The demo was produced, as usual, by Bryan Cumming, with Tim Buppert doing the vocal.
