» Goodbye

This started out as a cold lyric by Michael.  I worked with it for several months before one day spontaneously coming up with the "Goodbye" refrain while working it out on my guitar.  I had already come up with the back-and-forth guitar pattern for the verses, and was really happy with the verse melody.

Michael and I then spent the next year going through critiques and revising.  I had reversed the verses with the idea that "You ripped the blindfold off my eyes" made a better opening line.  One of our last revisions was to restore the original order of the verses.

I gave Michael free rein to work with Bryce to produce the demo, and ended up with my first "screamo" section.  I love the way the demo moves from a more tender, wistful opening to a ragged, vicious scream by the bridge.
