When was it that man first wondered what there was to fear,

Just beyond the fire's safety, something lurking near

Eyes reflected in the glow, cries of creatures no one knows, at night

Do you see what walks behind you when you're out at night

Do you sense the shadows moving just beyond the light

Does your heart cry out with fear at each muffled sound you hear at night

Give me books to make me learned

Give me art to make me grow

Give me science to explain the things that no one seems to know

Give me all these tools of knowledge

Give me all the truths of man

But they're worthless in the darkness that we cannot understand
