Vaughn wrote a lyric that I then tried to put to music. What I came up with was a throbbing bass part and guitar arrangement that just didn't work. When I turned to Tony to produce a demo, I told him to use Phil Collins' "In the Air Tonight" for inspiration.
What Tony did with the song revolutionized it. Vaughn called me when he received the demo and hesitantly told me that Tony was asking for a writing credit; I agreed enthusiastically.
What bugs all of us now is that the original tracks for the song were lost when Tony's basement flooded. I have never been able to figure out the chords Tony was using, and now he can't figure it out either!
