A HAMMER TO THIS WALL
Well, that’s an odd place to hang a picture
Only 4 feet off the floor
In a corner of my bedroom
Just behind the door
Behind that pretty picture
Even though it’s kind of faint
I can still read the words “I hate you”
Bleeding through the paint
DAD, LETS TAKE A HAMMER TO THIS WALL
HIT IT HARD AND WATCH IT FALL
IT’S STOOD TOO LONG BETWEEN US
BETTER LATE THAN NOT AT ALL
DAD, LETS TAKE A HAMMER TO THIS WALL
At fourteen I didn’t understand
Responsibility
For all these years those words I wrote
Divided you and me
That stain’s a sad reminder
Of when times for us were bad
When I thought you were trying to hurt me
But you were trying to be my dad
REPEAT CHORUS
I’ll keep this picture in my drawer
The wall won’t need it anymore
