CARDBOARD SOULS     C. Thompson, R. Bayes, S. Bayes

It was an ordinary Thursday
I was out of Mountain Dew
I saw a ragged man sittin’ on the curb
Puttin’ cardboard in his shoes
He’d been diggin’ through the dumpster
And I’m so ashamed to say
I made a judgement call about him
Then  I looked the other way

CARDBOARD  SOULS
HOW LONG CAN THEY LAST
THEY’RE NOT VERY STRONG
AND THE STREETS WILL MAKE THEM WEAR OUT FAST
JUST A PAYCHECK AWAY
THERE ARE PEOPLE LOSING HOPE
CLOSE TO STANDING IN THE SHOES
WITH THE CARDBOARD SOULS    (OF THOSE CARDBOARD SOULS)

It was a stormy Monday later
I was racing through the rain
I took shelter near an alley
Waiting for a train
Blinking lights fell on some boxes
One read “Whirlpool Duet”
Inside, a man, his wife and daughter
Were sleepin’ on their cardboard beds

REPEAT CHORUS

Through the pourin’ rain and the roarin’ train
I heard a voice inside me saying
“ It’s not just their pain, it’s all our pain
Don’t look away again” …with your

REPEAT CHORUS

All around there’s folks like me tryin’ hard not to see…….Cardboard Souls
